Snow White and the Huntsman

I don't know if this is a coincidence or on purpose but Hollywood in releasing two Snow White movies around the same time.  I wasn't really excited about Snow White and the Huntsman until today, because Kristen Stewart was cast to play Snow White.  She just really annoys me on screen.  How is some one so awkward an actor?  And why is her playing herself in EVERY SINGLE MOVIE seen as "great acting?"

Anyway, these posters make the movie look like it's going to be dark and sexy.  Which, if you couldn't tell, I like a lot!

Hello boys...

Always sexy

if she keeps her mouth closed I might be able to stand her

Movies That Have Caught My Attention

Here are a two movies that I am very interested to see.

1. Crazy, Stupid, Love.  This reminds me a little bit of Cyrus (and not not just because Marisa Tomei is in it) plus a more grown up 40 Year Old Virgin. And by the looks of Ryan Gosling I will have no problem finding out...

2. A Little Help. I love Pam from The Office and I have been waiting for Jenna Fisher to make it big on the big screen.  This movie may look like her shot. It looks quirky, it looks indie and it looks heartbreaking; all the makings of a good movie, in my book.  Only time will tell but I hope that this is as good as it looks.

New TV Shows

Ok, well maybe not new new, but new to me!

Here is a list of TV Shows that I watched for the first time this summer! Who knew I would have the time?

1. Sons of Anarchy
Despite the directors awkward and slighty schizoid tweet this show kicks ass (literally and figuratively). Had the effect on me that the Sopranos tried to.  Even though these characters do terrible things I can't help but feel for them.

2. Arrested Development
Took a while to grow on me, but the characters on this show became very endearing.  Such a quirky show :)

3. Parks and Recreation
I did devote a whole post to this show's hilarity!

4. The Voice
Pretty boring after the auditions and what the hell was going on with Xtina's hair?! But Javier Colon has a voice that makes you cry! Out of joy of course.

5. Dollhouse
I am a fan of Buffy the Vampire Slayer and Firefly, thankfully Dollhouse definitely did not disappoint. I didn't even know it was the same creator until I had almost finished the first season! Why is it that two of Joss Whedon's awesome shows had to be canceled prematurely? One Tree Hill can run for 11 years, but Firefly or Dollhouse can't make it past the 1st or 2nd season really America, really?

6. Game of Thrones
Like Parks and Recreations I devoted a post to this show. Yes, it's that good!

7. Camelot
Eh, I found this show cheesy and miscast.  The epic love story that is supposed to be Author and Guinevere is not so epic. The Guin depicted on this show likes to walk around wet and in see-through dresses suggestively attacking men who happen to see her. And Arthur is a whiny, not very attractive guy with beach bleached hair. Morgan La Fey was awesome though! This show makes me want to check out its PG counterpart Merlin. Needless to say I am not surprised that this show got canceled.

Movies Whose Trailers Confuse the Hell Out of Me

There have been a few times I have had to watch a trailer multiple times, but still have not quite figured out what the hell the movie is about!

Case and point:

1. John Carter.  First of all, the fact that this movie is Disney is confusing in itself.  I know they did Pirate's, but still I grew up watching The Little Mermaid and Beauty and the Beast, so whenever Disney produces violent action and adventure movies it takes me awhile to process. Either way I am not sure what this movie is about.  It feels like Planet of the Apes meets Avatar meets...wait why is the fate of an alien planet in the hands of an 18th century white dude? Come on now, really!

2. Hugo. A plot about an orphaned boy should not be this g-d confusing! Unless, all of this is in his mind...hm now that's a thought!

3. War Horse. Not to beat a dead horse (sorry, couldn't resist) but I have to mention this movie yet again, because seriously what the...

4. Ledge. This movie may be more dumb than confusing. Riddle me this: why would you make someone wait on a ledge long enough to draw the cops' attention, wouldn't it make more sense to make them kill themselves immediately and in the dead of night, not at noon!? Charlie Hunnam you disappoint me.

Miscast or Misunderstood

I know you all missed these!

This week I give you Carrie-Ann Moss as Trinity. Don't get me wrong I believe that Moss is an excellent actress and she did a wonderful job acting in the Matrix, but she didn't look good as Keanu Reeves love interest. She was way to manly looking for the relationship between herself and Neo to be believable. They are one of those couples that you would cause you to do a double take if you saw them walking down the street. Not in a "wow they are an attractive couple way" but more of a "are they dating or creepily close siblings" way

One of the other reasons of their static chemistry may have been a result of Reeve's acting.  Trying to convincingly show attraction him on screen is probably like trying to be attracted to a cardboard box. Aka impossible. Either way, she didn't do it for me.

Parks and Recreations

Watch it. You will not be disappointed!

From Ron Swanson's libertarian rants to Leslie Knopes never ending optimisim this show is continuously entertaining.  If you think the Office is a good show Parks and Recs will blow your notion of what makes a funny show out of the water!

What always put me off of this show was the fact that it follows a bunch of characters through day to day life at a government job in the parks department no less.  I would think "Snooze-fest." Glad the Netflix instant cue was severely lacking in quality entertainment and out of sheer desperation decided to give this a try.  Now I've turned multiple people onto this show. LOVE IT!

Now what clips of my favorite character Ron Mother F***ing Swanson.

Griff the Invisible

This movie feels like a marriage between Adam and Kick-Ass!

Meet Griff. At first we are led to believe that this is yet another comic turned movie, but as the trailer progresses turns out it may just all be in Griff's head. Cue plot twist!

Either way this movie looks like it has the potential to be quirky in a good way.

Game of Thrones

I finally got around to watching this show! It is so cool.  I really dig the history that George R. R. Martin created.  It has the perfect amount of fantasy, where is doesn't come across as corny.  It is also very gritty and violent.

The best thing about it is how real the story line is.  No character is safe, which is how I imagine this time period to be like. This world is harsh, it is killed or be killed and I love how they are not afraid to play with this.  No matter how lovable or horrid a character is, it's all about how you play the game.  I don't want to spoil anything for people who haven't watch this yet, but if you can't play the game you aren't going to last very long, so don't expect the people you like to stick around.

Hip-Hip-Hooray for good fantasy!

Creepy!

Random Reviews!

While looking through my posts I found a bunch of unpublished reviews. Here they are!

Love & Other Drugs
5/7

"Soft core porn" is the perfect way to describe this movie.  Half the time Jake Gyllenhaal and Anne Hathaway are pissed off at one another and the other they are completely naked.  Good thing Anne Hathaway has nice breasts.

This movie, again, was not as good as I expected.  The acting was great, the chemistry even better, but the story was so bi-polar.  I feel as if I was laughing one minute and feeling like I should cry the next.  Some times comedy and drama can work together, but in this movie the back and forth was just distracting and tiring.

The ending was predictable but the main actors were enjoyable to watch.  Anne Hathaway is a wonderful actress.  Her portrayal of a woman with early onset of Parkinson's was beautiful to watch.  I do not know anyone personally that has Parkinson's, but she made me believe that she was truly struggling to regain some sort of freedom with a crippling illness.

Of course, the "Drugs" in the Love & Other Drugs, was also another interesting and different aspect to this movie.  Seeing first hand how big companies like Phizer work, was at least interesting to me. And like always Gyllenhaal is lovable (and SEXY), even though he plays a self-centered ass****.

Due Date
6/10

Due Date....where should I start?

I went into this film expecting The Hangover, but no matter how hard it tries it will never be as funny. It does, however, have its laugh outloud moments.

After being forcibly removed and subsequently banned from flying, Peter Highman (Robert Downey Jr.), a slightly neurotic Architect, is desperate to find a way to get to Los Angeles before the birth of his baby. Enter Ethan Trembley, aspiring actor and man of questionable sexuality, brilliantly played by Allan a.k.a Zack Galifianakis. Ethan, who was also kicked off the flight, has rented a car and invites Peter along for the ride. Peter, who supposedly left his wallet on the flight, accepts and, as you might expect, everything seems to hold Peter back from his ultimate goal.

This movie definitely had its high points. Zack Galifianakis is endearing and funny. He plays a similar character to the one he played in The Hangover, someone oblivious to everything and not quite there mentally. Which, of course, leads to hilarious results.

I could definitely see the similarities to Planes, Trains, & Automobiles!

All in all, I quite enjoyed this movie, but it was not as funny as I expected after seeing the trailer. It cannot live up to The Hangover, nor would I pay $6.50 to see it.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows Part 1
9/10

Wow! I left the cinema with a renewed obsession for everything Harry Potter. Although it has been a while since I read the final book in the series, from what I remember this movie was a pretty faithful adaptation. It did take a more grown up approach, and there was a lot more violence in this movie than had been in the previous. The darkness and fear that crept throughout this movie was very fitting. I believe also that Daniel Radcliffe has become a much better actor. Prancing naked on stage has seemed to help him out a lot.

I always loved how Grint brought an endearing awkward to Ron, which was still present in the film, even though it seemed he was more awkwardly (because everything Ron does is awkward) pissed off than endearing in this film.

The ending was also very suspenseful; I definitely didn't feel as if I had sat in the theaters for 2 and half hours!

I guess my only complaint would be Ginny, who I am sorry to say did not look very attractive in this film. I've actually always seen Hermione with Harry, versus with Ron. Maybe that's because the on screen chemistry between her and Harry seems more real. I always feel like Daniel is forcing himself to like whoever plays Ginny, and their romance was so random and sudden in the 5th movie.

Will have to see this!

So a few weeks ago I watched Cyrus, which was a very good/quirky movie. And recently watched a trailer for a movie that seems to be in the vein. Melts my heart.

So I may be stretching myself a little thin on the Blogosphere...I recently got a Tumblr and then tomorrow I started a Wordpress blog. I may be losing it lol.

But right now I want to go back to my roots and that's you Blogger! Been with you since I was 16 and I feel like I owe you some love and attention. I promise I haven't forgotten about you :)

I have been watching a lot of trailers recently and a few movies have caught my eye.

1.  One Day
With Anne Hathaway and the delicious Jim Sturgess. I admit Anne Hathaway's attempt at a british accent is distractingly bad, it was so much better in Becoming Jane, but this movie looks really good and Anne is rocking the pixie cut!

2. Brave
The graphics are drop dead gorgeous!! I know this movie has a lot contraversy surrounding it, but I believe every Pixar movie rocks the house (with the exception of Cars, that movie was dumb) and Brave looks amazing!

3. The Three Musketeers
Maybe this movie is on my list because I grew up watching these kinds of movies. Sword fighting, costume dramas are my thing!  I think I have watched every single adaptation with the Musketeers in it. This does look pretty awful, but that never stops me from enjoying myself and it definitely represents my genre.  Also, ever since The Way We Live Now I have had my eye on Matthew MacFadyen. He is so talented, which means he is allowed one or two unmentionables.

4. Girlfriend
This might be too depressing for me, but it caught my eye.

5. The Names of Love
There is a special place in my heart for french films. They know now to put a fresh spin on an old tale. On that note, I recently watched Heartbreaker and loved it! I highly recommend watching at least 5 french films before you die.

Lastly, I would like to mention a trailer that made me laugh out loud at how ridiculously cheesy it was. Steven Spielberg WTF.

Tumblr-ing It Up

I might be stretching myself a little thin here, but I have recently started a Tumblr account and might head to Twitter next.

I am really liking the set up of Tumblr, which is more visual but still equally as fun.

Check out my Tumblr.  Update for Twitter will come soon!

Footloose Finally Set to Break Loose!

So the new trailer for the (highly anticipated) remake of Footloose just hit the web, and I am not impressed.  It threw me back to 2006 Step Up with all the public coordinated dance scenes.  But I am not going to automatically write this movie off as a flop.  I actually like "dance movies" like the original Footloose. All I am saying, if the story is atrocious the dancing better make up for it.

The acting looks a little rough in the trailer, which might be another reason to avoid this movie or at least wait till it becomes available to rent.

Another would be the fact that it took forever to start shooting.  There are many reasons why this film continued to get pushed back pre-production, but I believe that one of the main reasons was because they had trouble nailing down a lead.  Originally, Zac Efron was on board but he left quite early on along with the original director.  Next Chase Crawford stepped up to the plate, only to peace out due to "scheduling conflicts" (which in my book is often code for "terrible script"). Now we have Kenny Wormald has 5 movies to his, 4 of which he is credited as "Dancer." So we know he at least meets my dance requirement!

Check it out!

Braid!

So I bought this game on the Apple Store yesterday and its freakin awesome!  There are times when I am reading the story and it seems like it was translated from another language because I still dont know what is going on (something about saving a princess) but the game play reminds me of old school Mario with a twist.  Instead of dying you have the chance to rewind time and try again, which you have to use throughout the game to try and collect all the puzzle pieces.

It's a brain teaser and very frustrating at times, but the calming music helps keep you even headed at even the most difficult puzzles.

CHECK IT OUT!

WTF?!

So I dont know who this guy is (he had a role on lost), but it was just reported that he married a 16 year old in Las Vegas.  She looks like she's 30, but still he is 51 years old and creepy as hell.  Is this some fucked up ploy to get some PR going? (AKA like Britney shaving her head and Xtina's "DUI")

Either way, let me introduce Doug Hutchison every man's hero...

Hello Again!

Well I have definitely been MIA for the past two months. School definitely kicked my ass so I had to turn my focus to that.  NOW, not only taking am I taking classes over the summer I am a full time intern (9 to 5 Monday thru Friday)...very intense!

Anyway, I know this happened a LONG time ago BUT the Girl with the Dragon Tattoo trailer made its way to the internet and I must share it to he or she that still ventures onto this abandoned blog!

Spread the Word

Check out Citizen Global to hear their stories.

The Democratic Republic of the Congo was recently named "the rape capital of the world" by the United Nations and is the second worst place for women to live (after Afghanistan).  Every day thousands of women and girls are raped by soldiers and citizens.  Often times they are ostracized by their villages and families after wards, causing many to end their lives.

They are not protected or provided for by their government or villages, and many feel pressure to sleep with soldiers for money and other basic needs, which leads to unwanted pregnancy and more burdens.

Gang rape and violence against women have become the norm, as well as a tactic to rip apart communities and demonstrate the power of rebel forces and military within the country.

Part of the problem is that women of the Congo are still seen as second class citizens.  They are usually married off at young ages and forced to bear many children, which takes away their opportunity to receive higher education and realize their worth.

Women are always used as weapons of war.  Rape should not be tolerated. Do your part to help these women by giving them a voice.

Tintin!

First off I am so sorry for neglecting this blog for as long as I have but I have finally had some time to rest between finishing school and packing to move out of my house!
Sadly, this rest comes because I just got my wisdom teeth removed (OUCH!)

Anyway, I am writing because I am so excited that the comics I used to read as a kid is being made into a movie!  I don't know if Tintin is even known in the United Stated but they were very popular where I grew up, and I believe I owned almost all of them :)  I am hoping to find them once I go through my things in the  attic.

I really hope this movie can live up to my expectations.  I wonder why they are making a popular Belgian comic into a Hollywood movie?

Fail!

This made my week!

For the blind, that says "Kum & Go"

Less is more

So for my media class I have to create a WordPress and start blogging on it.  Let me tell you, WordPress is SO FUCKING confusing (yes it is so aggravating that it warrants the F-word)!

What the hell is a Page and why should I care?!  Stating that a Page is a "static post" is not helpful WordPress...I need a better description than that!

I also hate how there are a million things all over the dashboard on WordPress.  I guess options are nice, but when I feel so overwhelmed and can't find what I am looking for this fact becomes obsolete and I want to chuck my computer at the wall.

URGH!!!

Needless to say I am having difficulty with this assignment.  I would like to thank you Blogger for being so user friendly :)

Oh SyFy you just made my day!

Please tell me this is a joke

I believe that when a book like Atlas Shrugged is made into a movie they should at least try to get the lighting right and maybe every thing else will follow.

WHY IS EVERYONE SO ORANGE!?!  This is a tragedy.

Whoever made this film should go into a cave and never EVER come out again.  The fact that this is only Part 1, meaning another equally orange movie will be made, makes me want to cry.

Movies I want to see

Last Night
Usually not a fan of movies where there is probably going to be cheating, but this one looks like it is going to be more of a critique and less of a ploy to bring in viewers.

Scre4m
I have only seen Scream 3, but I love most of the actors that are going to be in this one :)

X
Interesting thriller set in Australia of all places and with what I am hoping are prostitutes of their own free will. If they are being forced to be prostitutes I will quickly peace out.

Rise of the Planet of the Apes
The original really freaked me out when I was little, but was still a decent movie. The recent remake sucked. Here's to hoping this one doesn't disappoint.

Oh Movie Posters...

I am such a sucker for a nice movie poster.  It is really quite sad and can be compared to buying a book without reading the back only because you liked the front cover.

This movie poster looks so sexy and rebellious!  The guy is also very attractive (in a weird way, right?), which I am totally a sucker for. The only thing wrong with this picture is Kat Denning (ugh)...she always plays the same character in every movie. The girl that doesn't give a sh-t, but at the same time has a very whiny voice, which makes for the most irritating character. Either way, after I watching trailer I wasn't quite sure if I really wanted to devote 2 hours of my life watching a train wreck unfold. Sadly, the poster is completely misleading! I hate when that happens, rare as it may be.

P.S.  I really don't know why Variety thinks that this film is "Juno as reimagined by David Lynch or a funnier, sunnier Donnie Darko"...first of all, this girl is not pregnant, but if this is anything like Juno I will NOT see it. Second of all, I do not see anything sunny or funny about a troubled girl who's obviously terrible past with men leads her to play with men's emotions and attempt to seduce her teacher... Variety has obviously never seen Donnie Darko.

Mortal Kombat

So my roommate just bought the new Mortal Kombat...which I have never really played.  This game is f-ing awesome though!

The Fatalities are so gruesome, yet so satisfying to watch!

The only thing I wish is that the women would have more clothes on, but I guess that's asking too much from asian men...

Sunday, April 17, 2011

OMG!

HBO is making American Gods by Niel Gaiman into a tv series!! I am so freakin excited!

Wednesday, April 13, 2011

?!

Could this trailer be any more confusing?
Yeah, we've all probably heard the conspiracy theories stating that Shakespeare put his name on other people's work...but the truth is probably not that interesting.

From what I can gather from the trailer Queen Elizabeth is behind the cover up, and someone is murdered for knowing the truth. Honestly?  I am sure no one really cared that much about plagiarism back then, especially if it were a group of women who wrote the plays.

Absolutely Ridiculous!

I can't believe this happened...what exactly was the reason why this child needed to be given a full body search??
And if the TSA is so damn good at their job, how did they not notice some dude was filming them?

Tuesday, April 12, 2011

a-ha!

This looks interesting. I really like the look of the vampires!! Paul Bettany really likes playing holy men...might need to dedicate a post to that lol.

As you have probably already guessed

I have started to re-watch Heroes, and I want to retract my earlier statement that I hate Sylar.  I just saw episode 21 (which I guess I missed the first time around) which makes Sylar a more two-dimensional character.  Which I like.

Anyways, Heroes is a worthwhile show, maybe only for the first season.  I guess I'll let you know once I move on to the second!

Such a ridiculous video!

I am shocked

So I have heard that Source Code is actually a good movie!!

I heart me some Jake Gyllenhaal, so I definitely going to see this one.  My only question is: How come he doesn't know anything about his mission the first time he is sent "back"? It's weird that no one would tell him what he was doing before they recruited him...seems like a waste of $$$.

Update: So I went to see Source Code and my question was answered in a acceptable way. This movie was actually pretty good. Probably not worth $8, but definitely worth a rental.

Friday, April 1, 2011

Ugh

I dont think I have hated a character more than Sylar...

Sucker Punched by Red Riding Hood

I need to learn how to pick them better.  It seems like two of the movies on my list have turned out to be anti-woman.  If this is the case, I cannot pay $9 to see them. So sadly I will not be adding my own views on both films, until they are on Netflix or online.

I feel like I should have known, with all the lingerie and school girl outfits, that Sucker Punch was going to be a little misogynistic but if A.O. Scott calls you out on it then it must be bad.  Shame on you Zack Snyder Dawn of the Dead was an excellent movie (or should I say remake?).  It seems like all his movies after that were lacking substance. Although I quite enjoyed 300, if it weren't for the jaw-dropping visuals and sexy 8-packs that movie would have been nothing but cheese.

So, I now hope that the other films that I added to my list are somewhat enjoyable.  Otherwise, I am going to start watching foreign films ONLY!

Stick Thin

I was actually inspired by my last post to show how stardom effects many women's self esteem and confidence.

Let's look at J-Hud.  I think it's amazing that she was able to over come struggles with her weight. But I feel like she lost way too much way too fast and now, especially in her face, she looks weird.  I may be completely wrong, but I feel like she has lost too much weight.
Right: Grammy's 2010 Left: Grammy's 2011

hello

The Three Musketeers

AHHH!!! I am so excited!  This movie is going to be super cheesy and action packed.  The kind of movie I like to watch when I need a break from reality.  Not so pleased about the 3D though...perhaps they will have a 2D option for those of us who hate Hollywood's half assed attempts to recreate 3D shown in Avatar.

There's Matthew Macfadyen (and you all know how much I love me some Mr. Darcy), Orlando Bloom (yeah you heard me right...maybe not so excited about him) and Ray Stevenson (who if you didn't know was in this awesome HBO show Rome)

Then there's Logan Lerman who is super cute.

Have a look.

It has been awhile! I can say I have been neglecting my blog because I have been busy etc but the truth is that my spring break was last week and I didn't feel like doing ANYTHING.  It was lovely.  Now I am back in school and sick as a dog....not fun

I just watched the trailer for Beautiful Boy which starts off going in one direction, but then takes an interesting turn.  I am intrigued and cant wait to hear the reviews for this one.

My Inner Nerd is emerging

I just stumbled upon this new series on HBO called Game of Thrones.  This show is totally up my ally.  It is set in medieval times with horses and sword fighting, romance and long dresses.  It has a very Camelot-y feel to it, and I cannot wait to watch it :)

Check it out

Correction (9:49 PM):  I lied.  I actually heard about this series a while back and just remembered being told that the twins on the show have a borderline incestuous relationship (which is sad because the male twin is attractive).  That was almost a year ago probably.  Can't believe how fast time flies...

Listen To Your Heart

Actually please don't.

I just finished watching this film, and I really can't even begin to put together what exactly happened.  It starts off innocently enough, but none of the reviews (which are scarce) were actually honest.  Either these people have no clue what a good movie is or because of the sensitive content they felt bad about saying anything negative.

***SPOILERS****(please dont read any further if you wish to see this movie...which I highly advise against)

Meet Danny, a sweet out of luck waiter working in the big apple.  He wishes to record his own music, so that other people can use it, not so he can become famous (Really?).  For a movie that spoke so much about the music in the this film and the importance of it in Danny's life, there really wasn't that much of it, nor did we see him dedicating much of his time to it.  And when there was music it was mediocre to simply god awful, so maybe that was a god send.

Most of the film actually focused on the strained relationship between Danny and Arianna (a deaf girl), who's over bearing, bordering psychotic mother comes between them in The Notebook meets Misery like fashion.  First of all their was no explanation for the mother's horrid behavior other than the fact that she was "controlling." Seriously? You don't create a fake email address pretending to be your daughter's boyfriend, so you can send your daughter an email, using said email address, telling her that he has moved on....that is beyond "controlling" in my humble opinion.  I could go on about this mother's behavior but it's hard to put it into words.

And, of course, there's the cancer.  Why wouldn't you suddenly, half way though the fim have you main character suddenly start dying of cancer, that makes SO much sense! At that point we really couldn't make fun of this film any more, which just made it painful to watch.  This film already had a deaf girl who was so hindered by her maniacal mother and her disability that she felt she couldn't make her own choices. PLUS both main characters' parents had died when they were younger.  Danny getting cancer was just ridiculous, not to mention, unnecessary.  It seemed as if the two characters were going to get back together, but after Danny's bffl gets done taking a dump in Danny's bathroom he see's Danny seizing on the living room floor (not kidding). BAM! Cancer!!!

Of course, after his death Arianna is able to find her voice and listen to her heart...just writing that made me nauseated!

Day Breakers

Side note: As I was trying to think of a creative title for this review, I kept repeating "Day Breakers" over and over again in my head, which when said quickly turns into Date Rapers...lol

Anyways, I just watched this film on Netflix instant que and semi enjoyed it.  Watching the trailer a year ago I had so many expectations for the film, because it looked to good!  But instead all I got was about 5 coinciding story lines, gratuitous violence and scenes that just dragged on for WAAAY too long. (I was having flash backs to Lord of the Rings Part III)

I believe the premise would have made an incredible film, but somewhere along the line someone dropped the ball and all I got was decent acting and a subpar story.

Basically, for those of you who have not heard of this movie, it centers around a world where, after an epidemic, most of the world's population is turned into vampires.  Jump to 10 years later and the vampire race is running out of human blood.  Bad things then begin to happen.

I thought the beginning was very clever and it definitely set the tone and bar for the rest of the film.  Sadly, the rest could not live up to the opening.  Don't get me wrong I definitely enjoyed watching it, and I heart Ethan Hawke but this film could have been so much more!

Oh Lent...

So this is the first year that I will be participating in Lent...if you can phrase it that way.

I will be giving up the following:

1. Swearing. I have gotten into this nasty habit of using the F-word a little too often.  I dont have a potty mouth by any means I just don't see the need of using bad words, besides the fact that it feels oh so nice :)

2. Unnatural sweets.  I tend to snack when I am bored, and my snacks are none too healthy.  Natural sugars will have to be my friends for 40 days.

Hopefully, I will become so used to not swearing/not eating candy that I will be able to last longer than 40 days.  We shall see!

Loose Adaptations of the Classic Fairytale

With Beastly just released, I thought it might be fun to do a theme to coincide.  Here are a few movies that are based on the classic fairytale.  Some good, some god awful.

Beastly
Of course we'll start with Beastly, which is the teem version of the classic Beauty and the Beast. I have yet to see this film, but it looks bad and the ratings seem to back up my hypothesis.  Besides Niel Patrick Harris, the acting looks like it may be pretty shoddy as well.

Snow White: A Tale of Terror
I actually enjoyed this adaptation of Snow White.  It was very, very dark (like the original tale) and Sigourney Weaver is fabulous as always.  I also like the subtle romance between dwarf and princess.  It was a lot sexier and definitely more violent than Disney's, but never-the-less still good.

Red Riding Hood
Like I have mentioned before, I am excited to watch this movie.  It looks sexy and I am totally digging the big bad wolf as misunderstood hottie. If you aren't completely sold, Hardwicke told Newsweek that even the wolf is a temptation, "In the traditional story, the wolf cross-dresses and lures her into bed. That’s pretty kinky right there! The wolf is the original tranny." Hilarious.

Ever After
This is one of my favorite adaptations of the fairy tale Cinderella. Instead of being a meek heroine, Drew Berrymore's character is opinionated and strong willed. My favorite :)

Tangled
This movie was so cute!  I really enjoyed this adaptation of Repunzel.  Not only was it appropriate for the demographic it was made for, it was also very funny. I would definitely buy this movie :)

Splash
Very loose telling of The Little Mermaid, same premise though.  I actually have not seen this movie in a very, very long time.  Probably not since I was 8 maybe, so I don't really remember much.  But I do remember loving it.

That's all that I can think of a the moment!

Miscast or Misunderstood?

Hayden Christiansen in Star Wars Episode I-III

What the hell were they thinking?! He turned one of the most badass villains of all time into a whiny, pathetic wimp. Come on Hayden, Darth Vadar (who was voiced by the great James Earl Jones) does not pitch fits when things don't go his way, he chokes people!  I would like you to grow a pair and discontinue acting, because you are terrible at it.  This butchery of one of my favorite characters of all time should have made him a pariah.

See atrocious acting below:

AHH!!

I just paid the "down payment" for my internship this summer!! I am so excited.  Yes, I have to take out a loan to afford this, but I have a great feeling that it's going to be worth it!

Sometimes you have to pay the big bucks to make the big bucks.

So Sad

So sorry for having gone AWOL from this blog, but I have been super stressed out trying to figure out how I am going to finance my internship this summer.  Being poor is no fun.

Sadly, I was only able to watch maybe 5 minutes of the Oscars, because I got home very late and dont have cable.  Word to the wise: live streaming sucks.  I am sure that website attempted to give me many viruses, but seeing Colin Firth win his first Oscar made it totally worth it.
I actually heard that I didn't miss much.  Apparently, Anne Hathaway and James Franco were not good hosts. This makes me sad :(

Anyways,  I was pretty happy with the results, after reading about them just now (yes, yes I know I am behind).

Most of my picks actually won!
:) = I was right;  >:( = I was wrong

The King's Speech - Best Picture :)
Colin Firth - Best Actor :)
Christian Bale - Best Supporting Actor :)
Natalie Portman - Best Actress :)
Melissa Leo - Best Supporting Actress >:(
Toy Story - Best Animated Film :)

I am in Love!

I have found my new obsession on Netflix after I ran out of episodes of Say Yes to the Dress (don't judge me).

Drop Dead Diva is so addicting.  The plot is a little out there and silly, but the characters are all so lovable and their stories just draws you in.

Meet Deb an aspiring model/actress who is killed while driving recklessly.  Cue a mix up in heaven where Deb is sent back down to earth into the body of intelligent, overweight, "plain" Jane.
Brooke Elliot is wonderful as shallow, dumb blonde suddenly trying to learn the ins and outs of her new body and life.

Truly enjoyable and fun!

Miscast or Misunderstood?

I hate to say it, but my choice for today is Humphrey Bogart in Sabrina.
Dont get me wrong I love this movie; however, Bogart is WAY too old to be playing the love interest of Audrey Hepburn's character, who is supposed to be a girl in her late teens, early 20s.  To me he comes off as a creepy old man. But I still love him!

Actors Doning a Costume

So there are a few actors that are stepping into the shoes of famous comic book characters that I am very excited to see! (In no particular order)

Chris Evans as Captain America

Chris Hemsworth as Thor

Anne Hathaway as Catwoman
Hopefully she will be better...

Andrew Garfield as teenaged Spiderman

January Jones as Emma Frost

James McAvoy as Professor X

Tom Hiddleston as Loki

Jeremy Renner as Hawkeye

P.S. Angry Mollusk this is for you :)

Hesher

Oh yes!  Joseph Gordon-Levitt, Natalie Portman and Rainn Wilson (aka Dwight) all in the same movie?

I am so freaking excited!! Indie Gordon-Levitt is back, and I could be happier :)

Miscast or Misunderstood?

Demi Moore as Hester Prynn in a very (very) loose adaptation of The Scarlett Letter.  It seems as if the whole novel was lost on whoever made this horrible movie.

I really didn't think Demi Moore was that good of an actress to begin with, and this movie just proved me right.

There seems to be some what of a theme with these posts. Horrible acting + American actors failing miserably at British accents = train wreck

Introducing...

The new Wonder Woman!

Upcoming Films of 2011 part 2

The Hangover 2
Opens: May 26

Loved the first movie, but that does not mean that the sequel is going to be any good.  I have been jaded too many when it comes to sequels, so please do not let me down!

X-Men: First Class
Opens: June 3rd

This movie looks like it's going to be epic!  And after the epic fail of the Wolverine movie, I am ready for an X-Men comeback.  Plus you really can't go wrong when you put James McAvoy in your movie :)

Your Highness
Opens: April 8

This movie looks god-awful, but then why the hell is Natalie Portman in it (Also James Franco and Zooey Deschanel)? So not her thing...so that got me wanting to see it (just a little bit).

Scream 4
Opens: April 15th

I haven't seen any of the Scream movies, but I hear good things about the first one.  The fourth installment is also getting a lot of buzz, plus I have been wanting to see a good scary movie for a while now. Hopefully this one does not disappoint.

Harry Potter and the Deathly Hallows: Part 2
Opens: July 15th

Oh boy!! Even though I know how it all ends, this feels like the end of my childhood.  I read the books over 10 years ago, and now the movie series that I grew up watching is coming to an end.  I believe, part 2 is going to be better than part 1, because Snape will be more prevalent, and Alan Rickman is always a joy to watch :) PLUS Ron and Hermione finally kiss!

Not so sure...

While at the theaters a few weeks ago, I saw the trailer for The Adjustment Bureau. I really love Matt Damon as an actor, but something just doesn't seem right with this film.  It comes off as a drama/thriller, but I can't get over how hilarious these men in the "Adjustment Bureau" look. Yes, men's fashion of the 60s was cool, but these guys just look goofy, and it's ruining the feel of the movie for me.

Am I wrong?

As you might have noticed

I have changed the title of my blog and also the theme...sort of.  I will still focus on movies, actors etc. But I would also like to veer from that, from time to time.

I really enjoyed my first blog about going shampoo free, and so instead of posting on two blogs I am just going to marry both Reel World and Living Naturally (plus add other things).  I think this will make it easier for me to find things to write about, plus more fun!

Get excited!

Hmm...

It is a very scary feeling to be driving down the road and suddenly you realize you cant remember the passed few, what feels like minutes but is probably just, seconds.  Thankfully, I still managed not to veer off the road.

My Favorite Romantic Movies

In honor of one of the most controversial holidays (and for all the romantics out there) I give you my favorite Love Stories!

Pride & Prejudice
Favorite. Movie. Of. All. Time! Girl meets Guy, Girl and Guy hate one another, Guy comes around, Girl does not, but after a lot of back and forth Girl realizes that they are perfect for one another.  Sound familiar? Well you can blame Pride and Prejudice for that.

Love, Actually
One of the best romantic comedies I have ever seen.  This could have easily turned into a huge, uncoordinated mess, because of the many interwoven story lines (see Valentine's Day), but instead every story is equally as intriguing.  This movie has everything a good romantic movie needs: love, laughs, heartbreak, lust...I could go one, but I think you get the gist.   The acting is wonderful and at the end you have this warm fuzzy feeling...

Breakfast At Tiffany's
Only Audrey Hepburn can make prostitution look classy.

Notting Hill
Hugh Grant is so adorably awkward in the movie, playing the lowely bookstore owner who falls in love with a movie star (played wonderfully by Julia Roberts)
Best line: "After all I am just a girl, standing infront of a boy, asking him to love her."
And below is the Best Montage Sequence in a movie...ever:

My Big Fat Greek Wedding
Such a funny movie. Also love that the lead actress is less attractive than the lead male, but that it does not matter because of the chemistry. I loved it as a kid, and I still love it now.

Titanic
Regardless of sexual preference, you had us at "I want you to draw me...wearing only this" Kate Winslet.  Gotta love self confidence.

Family/ Friends' Picks!
Atonement
Big Fish
Amelie

Sense and Sensibility
Dirty Dancing
The Notebook

What are yours?
